Rose LaBrèche began officiating in 2008 and quickly moved up the refereeing ranks in Ontario, finally progressing to her first invite to the National Festival in the summer of 2012. That fall, she was appointed to Rugby Canada’s National Panel of Referees, and has since become one of Canada’s most accomplished referees. Her career saw her travel the world as a Rugby Canada representative, being appointed to the Women’s Sevens World Series for the 2014-15 season after first being seen by World Rugby selectors at the Canada Women’s Sevens Event in Langford, BC in 2015. She would go on to referee at 13 Series tournaments from 2014-2018, and was Assistant Referee at 3 Vancouver 7s events in 2016, 2017 and 2019. Rose was selected to join the Match Official teams at major Games and tournaments, including the Rugby Americas North 7s in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017, the 2015 Pan Am Games, the 2018 Commonwealth Games, the Women’s Six Nations from 2016-2018, the 2018 Women’s Rugby World Cup, the Men’s and Women’s Repechage for the Rio Olympics 2016 and numerous domestic championships at provincial, national and U SPORTS levels from 2012-2019.

While these are some of Rose’s biggest accomplishments, the highlight of her career was being appointed as one of the Match Officials at the Rio Olympic Games in 2016, the first year rugby was back in the Olympics in over 100 years.
Rose was awarded the Match Official of the Year for both Rugby Ontario and Rugby Canada in 2015 and 2016 respectively, recognizing her incredible accomplishments as one of Canada’s top officials in both domestic and international competition.
Outside of her work on the field, Rose has taken on several development and leadership roles. She was a member of the Rugby Ontario Board of Directors, was an executive on the Eastern Ontario Rugby Referees’ Society, and is currently a World Rugby Match Official Educator, helping to train the next generation of match officials.
